Hello! I’m Suzanne, founder of Hillside Yarn.
I have been knitting and crocheting since childhood, creating hundreds of items, using a full range of techniques and styles, gifting items (tops, jumpers, cardigans, dresses, hats, scarves, mittens, cushion covers, blankets etc) to family and friends and for my own use. After taking a career break from a stressful senior role, I decided to bring my passion for yarn crafts to life and develop my own business, in order to help share my experience and know-how with others.
I’ve always found knitting and crocheting so relaxing. However busy or stressful my day may have been, sitting down to start or progress a yarn project is like therapy for me. I am full of ideas and love designing new styles, patterns and stitches. I like to see something someone is wearing and design a variation to knit or crochet myself. Usually when my project is complete, I discard my sketches and notes, but now I will be writing them up into user-friendly patterns for others to recreate for themselves.
We currently stock numerous Cygnet, James C Brett, Wendy and Emu yarns plus Hillside Yarns own label Milk Cotton in 35 sumptuous colours! As our small business grows, we will be adding more ranges and more suppliers too.
We create original design patterns for knitting and crocheting, suitable for all levels of crafters from absolute beginners through to super-experienced. What will you create next?
I’m hoping to demystify choosing an appropriate yarn for your projects and help to give you confidence to make adaptations to patterns in order for them to better suit what you like and need.
